Sustainability
At Blackheath High School, we are committed to fostering a culture of sustainability that transcends the classroom, extends into our community, and resonates with each individual.
Our students are curious, passionate and committed to the global issues that surround the climate crisis and constantly strive to support progress, both in the day-to-day and the big picture initiatives. As our future generation of change makers, they want action.
Sustainability is woven throughout our curriculum and also co-curricular clubs (such as Eco Club, and Design For Life), as well as our regular PreLoved projects. Having received a number of prestigious awards - EduCCate Global Bronze Award, Eco Schools Green Flag Award with Distinction and most recently the RSPB Bronze Award - our focus very much lies on developing the environmentally-conscious citizens who can shape the society in which we live and work and build sustainable communities.
Similarly, Sustainability sits firmly in our Futures agenda, with events such as Women in Leadership, and our careers/future pathways focus in developing key skills for 2030 and beyond. In 2024, we hosted the very first GDST Sustainability Conference which brought together some 70 students and teachers from our fellow GDST schools. With a thought-provoking itinerary from a variety of keynote speakers and workshops, students were inspired with many fascinating ideas for careers around sustainability and ensuring the survival of our wonderful ecosystems.
