Last year in our Year 2 Nature Club, pupils took part in many activities exploring nature, investigating space and helping wildlife. As part of this, they wanted to make a difference to the wildlife which visits our playground. So this term, they have worked hard using challenges set by the RSPB and completed enough challenges to earn the RSPB Bronze Award. There were two categories: Helping Nature and Experiencing Nature. Activities included: being habitat explorers; building a small pond; filling the playground composter built by Mr Greaves; making bird feeders and a bug hotel; writing a poem; and finally an assembly to spread the word as to how everybody can help wildlife. A lot of work has been done in our Forest School area by Mrs Brown, our Forest School Leader, and the girls enjoyed using the space to explore nature and make a difference.
Also this year, together with WWF, Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust and the Woodland Trust, the RSPB are recognising all the schools that have taken action to protect and restore nature. So in addition to the Wild Challenge Certificate, we also achieved the Schools For Nature certificate (signed by Sir David Attenborough). This was to recognise what the girls in Nature Club have done to protect and restore nature in our school grounds and the development of our Forest School area.
This years Nature Club are now working towards the RSPB Silver Award. They have completed activities relating to weather and looking closely at leaves and their structure.
