Scholarship Programme

The Blackheath High School Academic Scholarship has been designed to recognise and reward academic excellence with a huge range of unique, door-opening opportunities. Girl emPowered Academic Scholars are automatically entered into our bespoke Competitive Admissions programme which supports high-level university applications including Medicine, Veterinary, Dentistry, and Oxbridge. In addition, they benefit from: 

•  1:1 mentorship and high-level academic support from teachers on our Senior Leadership Team 

• A range of scholars’ trips, workshops and lectures to nurture and enhance academic ambition 

• The opportunity to represent the school at a number of prestigious regional and national academic competitions 

• GDST events and workshops 

• An annual Girl emPowered Academic Scholar Project, exclusive to our Girl emPowered Scholars 

• Attendance at the annual, invitation-only Scholars’ Celebration 

• The opportunity to showcase their knowledge and act as role models to inspire and encourage others in the school and the wider community 

It is not necessary to apply for an Academic Scholarship – potential scholars will be selected for interview on the basis of exceptional performance in the 11+ entrance examination. 

The Girl emPowered Scholarship Programme comes with a fee remission, plus the honorary value of a prestigious scholarship which is well-regarded by universities. 

Every candidate taking the 11+ entrance examination is automatically considered for an Academic Scholarship; you do not need to indicate your wish to be considered on your application. Candidates applying for a subject-specific place on our Scholarship Programme will also be considered for an Academic Scholarship. 

Blackheath High School Girl emPowered Art Scholars are offered a huge range of unique, door-opening opportunities to enhance and nurture their artistic talent. Our experienced Art department has created a programme of exceptional benefits for students who demonstrate outstanding artistic talent, including: 

• 1:1 mentorship with our Head of Art 

• Trips to inspirational destinations 

• Creative workshops, seminars and other opportunities to enhance their creativity 

• An annual Girl emPowered Art Scholar Project, exclusive to our Girl emPowered Scholars 

• Hands-on creative experience supporting the Art Department at events and exhibitions 

• Invitation to an annual, invitation-only Scholars’ Celebration 

• The opportunity to showcase their work and act as role models to inspire and encourage others in the school and the wider community 

Prospective Art Scholars are selected based on a portfolio of work submitted at application, along with a strong performance in the 11+ entrance examination; or excellent GCSE grade predictions/ entrance examination results for 16+ candidates.

The Blackheath High School Girl emPowered Drama Scholarship is tailor-made for students who show exceptional potential in the performing arts, providing them with a wealth of opportunity to enhance and nurture their talent. Benefits include: 

• 1:1 mentorship with the Head of Drama 

• Trips to major London shows 

• Expert-led workshops and seminars 

• An annual Girl emPowered Drama Scholar Project, exclusive to our Girl emPowered Scholars 

• The opportunity to take part in our highly anticipated school productions 

• Invitation to an annual, invitation-only Scholars’ Celebration 

• The opportunity to showcase their work and act as role models to inspire and encourage others in the school and the wider community 

Prospective Drama Scholars are selected based on a submitted film and in-person audition, along with a strong performance in the 11+ entrance examination.

Students who demonstrate exceptional musicality and potential will thrive within the environment of Blackheath High School’s bespoke Girl emPowered Music Scholarship. It has been designed by our Director of Music to offer a wide range of unique opportunities which will nurture talent and develop skill and includes: 

• 1:1 mentorship with our Director of Music 

• Scholar-only trips to world-class venues 

• Regular expert-led workshops and seminars  

• An annual Girl emPowered Music Scholar Project, exclusive to our Girl emPowered Scholars 

• The opportunity to take leading roles in school ensembles, with regular performance events 

• Invitation to an annual, invitation-only Scholars’ Celebration 

• The opportunity to showcase their skills and act as role models to inspire and encourage others in the school and the wider community 

Prospective Music Scholars are required to have attained a Grade 5 standard on at least one instrument. Selections are based on a two-part audition, along with a strong performance in the 11+ entrance examination. Applications are encouraged from both instrumentalists and vocalists.

The Blackheath High School Girl emPowered Sports Scholarship has been crafted by our experienced Director of Sport to enhance and nurture students’ sporting excellence. Athletes who demonstrate exceptional talent and potential in any sporting discipline will build their skills within a programme of exceptional benefits which include: 

• 1:1 mentorship with our Director of Sport 

• Weekly strength and conditioning coaching in our dedicated Fitness Suite 

• Lectures and workshops designed to nurture sporting talent and ability 

• An annual Girl emPowered Sports Scholar Project, exclusive to our Girl emPowered Scholars 

• The opportunity to represent the school at a range of competitive fixtures and tournaments, including the prestigious GDST Sports Rally 

• Invitation to an annual, invitation-only Scholars’ Celebration 

• The opportunity to showcase their skills and act as role models to inspire and encourage others in the school and the wider community 

Scholarships are awarded based on an assessment day, along with a strong performance in the 11+ entrance examination; or excellent GCSE grade predictions/ entrance examination results for 16+ candidates.
