Spotlight: Our Year 12 Drama Scholar, Alison

Web BHS 9to5 Credit SteveGregson 017My name is Alison, and I am a Year 12 Drama Scholar, currently studying A-level Drama, Economics and Politics, plus an EPQ. I am also a Grade 6 LAMDA student and a Prefect on the Head Student Team. I joined Blackheath High in Year 7 and have loved it ever since. It has not only given me the opportunity to enhance my creative skills but also to become more confident in my performance and my academic abilities.

As a Drama Scholar, I co-run Music and Drama Society alongside one of my peers and help with our Drama Club for Years 7-9. I have also had multiple opportunities to go on theatre trips to West End shows and different plays such as, ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’, ‘Wicked’, ‘Frozen’ and many more.  Most recently, I assistant directed our school musical, ‘High School Musical’. It was so fun to see the show come together and has been a highlight in my time at Blackheath High. Being able to work with younger students allowed me to be a guide for them as they embark on their creative journey, and I plan to continue guiding them by assistant directing our KS3 summer play.

Blackheath High offers multiple performance opportunities and I am lucky enough to have been cast in previous Musical productions, including the minor lead role, Dwayne, in ‘9 to 5’ and Richie in ‘13’. On top of my commitment to Drama, I also do a lot of Dance and Music. I am in four music clubs - Rolling Tones, Vocalise, Senior Choir and Year 12 Rock band. Because of these music clubs I am very fortunate to participate in six concerts this year, I performed in our Carol and Autumn concerts and will soon be performing in our Spring concert and next term I will be in Pop fest and the Summer concert. I am also going to perform at Fairfield Halls in the summer term alongside a number of other GDST schools.

Going through the transition from GCSE Drama to A-level Drama was a challenge, but I received a lot of support from the Drama department who have made this transition a lot easier.

I am very happy to call myself a Blackheath High girl and to be a part of the amazing community. I am so grateful for all the opportunities the school has given me, and I am proud to say it’s the perfect place for me. I can’t for what lies ahead.
