This term, Years 3 and 4 were visited by outdoor immersive learning specialists The Hive, who created an exciting Outdoor Learning event entitled the ‘Magic of Autumn’. The sessions, which took place at the Sports Field, focused on the Mighty Girls skills of teamwork, bravery, ambition and curiosity.
Year 3 foraged for materials to create a spooky Hapa-Zome picture, whittled a magic wand and lit a fire to make spiced hot chocolate. Hapa-Zome is the Japanese technique of smashing flowers and leaves into fabric, essentially using a 'leaf dye' technique.
Year 4 extended the challenge, spending the whole day learning new skills. They made lavender lip balm and their own natural paints using foraged materials, they learnt how to use knives and a saw safely to split and saw wood. The day ended with the girls lighting a fire without matches and cooking pancakes on a campfire.
For both year groups it was a day to remember. The girls had a great sense of achievement and tackled activities that were inherently dangerous with great bravery.
