Year 2 celebrate Epiphany with Galettes des Rois

On 6 January, the French celebrate l'Epiphanie (or 'la journée des rois') to commemorate the visit of the three Wise Men to the baby Jesus. To help bring the celebration to life, Year 2 pupils designed beautiful crowns at home and wore them to their French lesson where they baked delicious nut-free ‘galettes des rois’ (or ‘King cakes’), complete with hidden fèves. Traditionally two little figurines -'fèves' - are hidden in the cake; whoever finds one of them will become the King or Queen for the day, and everyone else must obey their every whim!

Hosted by our fantastic team of Year 5 Welcome ambassadors, parents were invited to enjoy a slice of cake after school. Such a lovely way to bring families together at the beginning of the new year and share in this much-loved French tradition.
