Year 5 head to Young Voices at the O2

Music Young Voices IMG 0855Young Voices is one of the biggest events on the UK’s performing arts calendar – billed as the largest children’s choir concert in the world, children from across the country perform in unison at huge venues to rapt audiences. On Friday 24 January, Blackheath High’s Year 5 travelled to the iconic O2 with Head of Music Ms Coles for this extraordinary singing experience.

After a full afternoon of rehearsals, the excitement built as the 7pm start time drew closer and closer. As parents arrived and the concert opened to the voices of more than 6,000 schoolchildren – including our friends at Brighton Girls GDST - the atmosphere was utterly magical.  The music was spectacular – from a 90’s garage mix-up, to special guest appearances from Strictly’s Tommy Blaize, rapper DJ Grammar and singer Souparnika Nair, and a final Bob Marley medley – and Year 5 had an incredible, unforgettable day. Although very, very tired, everyone declared it was, “…the best day ever!”.  Huge thanks to all parents and carers in Year 5 for coming along to support this event.
