Bleu, blanc or rouge breton tops and berets were de rigueur at our Year 4 soirée française. Pupils had a wonderful - and very grown-up - Friday night immersing themselves in French culture and delighting in a host of activities. The disco and quizzes were a hit, as were were the delicious madeleines home-baked by our fabulous catering team!
‘La Belle et la Bête’ was shown in French with English subtitles and was the perfect movie choice to conclude Year 4’s topic, “Les créatures fantastiques”. Though some may have missed a few nuances of the language, the storyline captivated all, and reminded us of the importance of empathy, inner beauty and tolerance.
The Spanish Department, courtesy of Onatti Productions, presented a superb new play, perfect for teenagers learning the language and performed by their native Spanish actors.
Carlota and Carlos have booked a large remote Airbnb house for the weekend and they are looking forward to their first weekend away together.
Paloma too has booked an Airbnb for a few days to get over a relationship break-up. But thanks to a a mistaken double booking by the owner, she has booked the same Airbnb for the same weekend...
Carlota and Carlos realise there is something not right with the place and Carlos soon discovers their Airbnb has been double booked by Paloma - his ex-girlfriend!
This play’s physical humour, complete with comedic misunderstandings and mishaps, is made even funnier as the show is played by just two actors.
Designed to be fun and boost language confidence, each play is accompanied with worksheets which contain a synopsis, some extracts from the written script and some useful words and phrases.
“At School we watched the Spanish play, Reserva Duplicada. The play was about a mixed-up Airbnb booking between a couple and a woman getting over a break-up – except the characters turn out to know each other! The play was very funny and lighthearted. It was easy to understand and there was lots of audience participation!!”
