The Art department organised a visit to Hastings for all 29 of our Year 10 GCSE Art students. This experience aimed to provide an important opportunity to observe and record from a spectacular array of stimuli using a range of different methods and materials. Students undertook several drawing and photographic tasks, gathering evidence, ideas and materials that will form the basis of their own practical work and act as an exciting starting point for the first unit of work in Year 11.
Despite the worryingly wet start to the day and the grey clouds overhead, everyone applied themselves brilliantly as they set to sketching from the collection of fishing boats, stacks of crabbing pots and surrounding paraphernalia. After the lunch break, the sun finally arrived as we settled around the iconic ‘net shops’ for some more drawing tasks. This time the students were challenged to capture forms, tones and textures using just black and white media.
The enthusiasm and focus of everyone was very impressive, particularly when facing the blustery environment in the first few activities, as was the standard of the work produced. It was an absolute pleasure to take this group on location and hopefully it provided them with an enjoyable and memorable end to the year.
