With the continuation of COVID restrictions, we were not able to welcome visitors as planned to our annual Art Exhibition scheduled for Thursday 24 June.
Although this was incredibly disappointing for all concerned, you’ll be pleased to know that we were not deterred and managed to display all GCSE + A-level Art work as an exhibition in the Wollstonecraft Room as intended. This featured acrylic paintings and constructed textiles entitled ‘Decay + Dereliction’, garment designs inspired by ‘Flora + Fauna’, lino-cut portraits and mixed-media ‘Journey’ pieces (all GCSE) along with the Personal Investigation projects produced by our A-level Art students.
Our A-level Textiles students went the extra mile to not only complete their individual collections, but also to organise and choreograph a fantastic fashion show to showcase their designs.
We have captured these events extensively in both film and photography and are in the process of putting together an on-line gallery to display each student’s work. A small preview can be seen below and it is planned to show the Fashion Show film to the whole school on the last day of term. In addition, we intend to keep this work on display in order to give students and families a chance to view when attending the ‘Valedictory’ event in early September.
We hope that by doing this we can celebrate all of our students’ wonderful achievements and give others a chance to see just how talented and dedicated they all are!
Mrs Gilbert and I were so impressed by how each individual dealt with both the difficult circumstances and constantly changing guidelines as they progressed through the last two years. It was an absolute pleasure to be able to be part of that ‘journey’ through working with them each week, but also by viewing their sketchbooks and other pieces in detail as we went through our assessment process.
We would both like to thank all of our Year 11 and Year 13 classes for being such a great bunch of students and hope that they have a super summer.
