On Friday 29 January the school had a very special mission – to be engineers for the day!
Reception girls started by listening to the story ‘Rosie Revere Engineer’ by Andrea Beaty, before getting on with their own inventions. Some of them decided to make inventions that appear in the book, such as Florence’s special hat designed to keep penguins away, or Aanya and Myra’s flying machines. Others decided to come up with their own inventions, such as Maisie’s cat trap / hotel which prevents cats from coming into her house by giving them a much nicer place to go instead!
Nursery joined in by reading a book by Oliver Jeffers called ‘What We’ll Build', looked at the work of the architect Zaha Hadid and investigated how to build strong bridges.
Year 6 made incredible structures, including bridges, boats and chairs. Some even built their own robots! You can see a video below of Ellie's Ark and Georgia's Boat.

The girls showed fantastic creativity, engineering know-how, and resilience in the face of our ‘first failures’ – all whilst having an awful lot of fun! We hope you enjoy the photos below showing some of the inventions.
