The time for hosting the annual Senior Citizens’ Party had arrived. Year 10 students in our Senior School had been busy, preparing for weeks, to ensure our Senior Citizens guests had an entertaining and enjoyable afternoon. The party was themed as a 'Mexican Fiesta' and we elaborately decorated the Theatre with handmade decorations, including fantastic paintings of cacti. We all efficiently carried out our roles, ranging from putting up decorations, checking IT and clearing away any mess before the guests arrival at 1pm, some of whom were so excited that they arrived an hour early!
The party commenced with our guests settling down at their tables, enjoying tea and coffee while Siya and Freya (the compères) welcomed them and talked through the programme for the afternoon while Emily, Ava and Grace played very welcoming songs on the piano. The varied and enjoyable mix of entertainment followed. Olivia sang “Skyfall”, accompanied by Emily on the piano, Rebecca sang an original song on her guitar, followed by Amy tap dancing to “Hey Brother”. Two games of 'bingo' were played, bringing the room to silence as everyone concentrated - we could see the focus of each player as they marked numbers on their playing cards! The quiz was also very entertaining, and two groups tied so a tiebreaker question had to be asked to determine the winning team.
Maddie and Pascale then performed a contemporary dance to “Shape of You” and Siya sang “Wicked Game”. The party ended with a raffle. To conclude the afternoon, Mrs Vexter gave us a card saying what an incredible day she had and that she was very thankful for us making this day so special. Our guests departed, passing on many pleasant comments about the party and told us that they would come every single year without exception! We are delighted to still be receiving notes and cards of thanks, stating what an amazing job we did! All of us agree that is a very worthwhile and rewarding event and we are really proud of our efforts.
