After the successful Grand Opening last week, we talk to the Blackheath High School Executive Chef Marcin Siemek about his experience in catering with Accent Catering and how it benefits the school.
What is your job title?
Executive Chef Manager of Junior & Senior School - Accent Catering
Tell us about yourself, what is your role? What does your job involve?
My role requires me to lead and motivate my team to deliver food to a high standard using fresh ingredients.
How long have you worked here? Tell us about your career path.
I have been with Accent Catering company for two and a half years.
I started my career in London in 2006 and I worked as a Senior Sous Chef in one of the Covent Garden 4*hotel for over 8 years. Then I moved to one of the Covent Garden restaurants working as a Head Chef. Later I was a Chef Manager in one of the hotels in Euston and just before I joined Accent Catering, I was working for Restaurant Associates.
How does your previous experience benefit the school?
I think coming from completely different background gives me the benefit to improve the school meals and make them more interesting for the students. In my previous work I had to create a variety of dishes from different parts of the world and this gave me the amazing experience for my future.
What do you like most about your job?
Being able to be creative and show my passion for food I am preparing daily for the students and staff.
What makes working here at Blackheath High School so rewarding and enjoyable?
The variety of work including day to day operation and extra hospitality events where I can create my own menus and show my ability and my passion.
What has been your biggest achievement at Blackheath High School?
I think that awarding my company a contract to cater at Blackheath High School is my biggest achievement so far.
What has been your biggest challenge at Blackheath High School?
Definitely the school's Grand Opening event last week where I created ‘A culinary tour of the world – Mexican, Middle Eastern and Caribbean’ for 500 guests.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I have two daughters, 3 year old Lily and 7 year old Maya. I love to spend my free time with them. Also I love music, good films, reading, history & sport.
Tell us something surprising about yourself
I am a huge fan of death metal music and you can meet me at some of the concerts all around London.
