A relatively new addition to our school, Mrs Parker tells us how her secondary school teaching experience benefits our Junior girls.
Tell us about yourself
My role is teaching French from Nursery to Year 6. The girls have 15 minutes a week of French in nursery, moving to half an hour in reception and then an hour from Year 1 upwards.
How long have you worked here?
I've been here since September 2018.
Tell us about your career path.
I began as a secondary school French teacher and most recently worked at UCS in Hampstead before taking a break to care for my two lovely girls. I then returned to teaching a couple of years ago working as a French teacher and then a Year 5 teacher at Alleyn’s before beginning here in September this year.
How does your previous experience benefit the school?
Having worked in a secondary school means I know what is expected and useful for the girls when they move on after Year 6.
What do you like most about your job?
The varied topics I get to teach and the fun I have in the classroom whilst teaching.
What makes working here at Blackheath High School so rewarding and enjoyable?
The kind and interested nature of the girls here. They are a pleasure to teach.
What has been your biggest challenge at Blackheath High School?
Learning the names of every single girl in the Junior School!
What has been your biggest achievement at Blackheath High School?
Succeeding in learning everyone’s names!
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Spending time with my family, going to the gym and playing the piano.
Tell us something surprising about yourself
I love surfing, but didn’t learn to do it until I was on a school trip as a teacher. Now I try to accompany any school trip where surfing might be one of the activities.
