Inside an apprenticeship with Warner Bros

For assembly this week at the Senior School, I talked to the girls about pride. We looked at different manifestations of pride, from hubris to a more personal pride in one’s approach or attitude. I emphasised the importance in approaching everyday life in a way to be proud of, rather than focussing solely on achievements or awards. Commitment, resilience, kindness and determination were all qualities I asked the students to think about in how they approach their studies, their activities and their relationships. In this way they can build their self-esteem in a meaningful and long-lasting way, as opposed to focusing pride simply on a specific outcome or achievement.
It is heartening therefore to see such an array of reports in this week’s Highlife that illustrate these qualities so vividly. Firstly, we can see the commitment of our sports teams to their training and fixtures and our musicians in preparing for wonderful events like the stunning Cantata at St Margaret’s and the wonderful teatime concert at Vanbrugh Park before half term.
Determination and resilience and creativity were evident in every aspect of a truly stunning Fashion Show, so ably co-ordinated by Thea, Maia and Angele alongside Mrs Gilbert. All of us were really impressed by such a professional event and by the effort and determination that would have been necessary to provide such a polished event.
Resilience and kindness were also a defining feature of the glowing reports I have received about the girls who took part in two exciting trips over the break: a ski trip to Cras Montana and an Art and Religious Studies trip to Rome. Not only did the girls have a fabulous time and learn a huge amount, they were a great credit to the school and themselves. Although itineraries were full and activity-packed, they were exceptionally thoughtful and helpful to the staff leading the trip. My thanks to all the accompanying staff for spending their holiday providing a great experience for the students.
Finally kindness and community spirit was in abundance at Peter’s funeral this week. We are so appreciative to all the members of our school family, past and present who helped up to provide a fitting tribute to Peter at his funeral. We were very touched by everybody’s kindness and generosity.
So there is a huge amount to be proud of, and grateful for, this week; what a great school we have!
