The Greenman Competition

Every year Blackheath High has an inter-school public speaking competition where girls from Year 6 through to Year 12, participate. It is very competitive as the participants have to get through two rounds before making it through to the finals. The English department is incredibly proud of the confidence displayed and articulate delivery of the impressive speeches. This year the judge was Mr Parsons, a well-known previous English teacher at the Senior School.  He also taught Public Speaking and ran the Debating Society. He said: "Good public speaking is power, being able to present knowledge and skills to others effectively."

The finalists spoke about a variety of incredibly interesting topics; including, 'Would you be better off without money?' and 'We live in a plastic society'. All the girls were engaging and delivered their speeches beautifully. They were persuasive, confident and mature.

Massive congratulations to the winners; Alex from the Lower School, Hannah from the Upper School, and Martha from the Sixth Form, who was the overall winner.

It was a fantastic afternoon and well done to everyone who took part.
