The time has come to say goodbye to our beloved Head of Juniors, Mrs Sarah Skevington. She joined the school as a reception teacher 16 years ago and since then has worked tirelessly to take Juniors to the incredibly strong position it is in today. The Head of a school typically fosters the culture and anyone who has walked through the doors of Juniors can feel the positive, nurturing and dynamic nature of the school almost instantly.
Mrs Skevington has made many changes to the school over the years; from supporting a large growth in pupil numbers to the Mighty Girls initiative, and the development and expansion of Sport provision to overseeing the physical expansion of the building.
She knows every single girl in the school, including most at Seniors whom she has taught over the years. It never ceases to amaze me how much Mrs Skevington can remember. She has been faultlessly committed right up until the very end of term and I expect she will continue to promote our school after she leaves. As well as being an immense support to me as a Head, Mrs Skevington is the go-to Junior Head within the GDST, often supporting newer members of the team. She has led her team with passion, ambition and humour.
Whilst we will miss her immensely, it is great that she will have more time to indulge in her many passions, starting with a term-time holiday in September! I personally would like to thank Mrs Skevington for her unwavering commitment to Blackheath High School and for always keeping the girls at the heart of every conversation; she is a very special person and we are lucky to have had her for so long!
Farewell, Mrs Skevington, and may your retirement be full of adventure!
