Celebrations and new beginnings for Year 6

Year 6 Leavers Celebration Assembly

For Year 6, the end of term marked the end of their time at Junior School. Together with their parents, pupils celebrated with a special assembly on Friday 5 July. The morning began with a delicious brunch provided by Accent Catering before the girls performed It’s Time to Fly.

We welcomed Olivia McQuillan, People Development Consultant at Hustle House, who gave an inspirational talk about her career to date and gave useful advice for the future.

Mrs Argile and Mrs Skevington shared memorable words of wisdom for the years ahead and reflected on the many exciting events over the girls’ time at Juniors. Year 6 also performed Don’t Stop – a memorable pom-pom extravaganza!

The assembly concluded with the presentation of gifts to Year 6 as a way to commemorate their time at Juniors.

Well done, Year 6. We are very proud of you all and will miss you!

Special thanks go to Chef Rosario and his team, Ms Eaves, Mrs Coles and Mr Wraight.

Year 6 head to Normandy on final Juniors residential

Year 6 embarked on a residential trip to Normandy, France for a five-day, action-packed adventure. We stayed in Chateau du Broutel and used it as a base to explore many places, at the same time developing key skills in different areas. For example, our visit to a traditional French market helped us experience French culture and widen our French vocabulary, while a trip to the Nausicaa Aquarium broadened our knowledge of marine life - we also watched an impressive seal show!

On Wednesday, we visited an underground war museum and got an exclusive guided tour about the battle of the Somme. Afterwards we went to a preserved battlefield which had remains of the trenches dug by soldiers and then paid our respects at the Thiepval memorial which has around 600 gravestones. We felt it was important to take the time to look at the names carved into the stone and the official records. The popular attractions during the trip were the biggest bomb crater in the world, a goat farm and a chocolate factory. It was a day to remember, and we all learnt something new.

Year Six would like to say a special thank you to the following teachers:

  • Mrs Nolan for being such a fantastic group leader

  • Ms Smith for taking responsibility for medication and being a fabulous support to us all

  • Ms Lucas for being amazing, particularly in taking care of our money!

  • Madame Moriseau for the excellent help with vocabulary, encouraging us with independence and taking brilliant photos

Year 6 Production of ‘Olivia’

On 20 June Year 6 put on a fantastic performance of the musical Olivia!, which puts a fresh female twist on the classic Oliver!

The girls displayed excellent commitment throughout the production and showcased perseverance and fantastic acting skills which brought the show together. The process started with several hours of rehearsals every week - pupils showed real determination and coordination for the dance choreography. As the scenes were perfected, backgrounds were painted and the dance moves were nailed, the show really started to come together.

The week before show night, Year 6 performed to the whole school to warm up for the real thing. Finally, the show was here! The girls were bursting with excitement and showed real support to those who were nervous. The highlights of the show were the opera song, the London song and the finale song.

We would like to say a special thank you to the parents who helped with makeup and hair on the night, Kirsty the opera singer, all the teachers involved (especially Mrs Karakosta), Year 5 for the excellent chorus, the stagehands and set designers, the programme cover designers and of course the fabulous Year 6 performers.
