Year 9 students Leilani and Mimo review their Easter trip to Paris.
A real highlight of our trip was going to the Palace of Versailles and seeing the beautiful Hall of Mirrors and Marie Antoinette’s room. Another was le Ponts des Arts, also known as the Bridge of Love. It was fascinating to see the vast number of locks attached to the fence, especially since I wasn’t aware of this tradition. We decided to partake in this and purchased a lock for ourselves. It was a lovely bonding moment and memory between the two of us.
In our opinion, the iconic Eiffel Tower is an essential part of any visit to Paris. From its lofty heights, you're treated to an unparalleled view of the City of Light in all its splendour. As you gaze upon Paris from above, landmarks such as the Arc de Triomphe and the Seine take on new dimensions, offering a perspective that's awe-inspiring and humbling.
We visited The Parfumerie for a sensory journey through different types of perfum. Here we found out why musical terminology appears in the origins of perfume making (for example, perfume ‘notes’), and the organ used to create perfumes. We even created our own perfume!
Indulging in macarons is a delightful experience for the senses. Delicate almond meringue cookies sandwiching flavourful fillings offer a burst of sweetness with every bite. Whether you opt for classic flavours like raspberry or venture into more adventurous combinations, each macaron is a miniature masterpiece of taste and texture; but they came in a range of sizes, some the size of Matilda’s head!
What other interesting new things did we learn?
It was interesting seeing a different public transport system. I found the double decker trains very surprising!
A great new phrase ‘ce n’est pas tes onions’ which directly translates to ‘it is not your onions’ but more loosely means ‘it is none of your business’!
I recommend Paris for people who are interested in French culture, enjoy French food, and who are looking for a relaxing journey filled with beautiful memories. We loved every minute!
