Around the WorldWise Quiz
In a quest to demonstrate their geographical prowess, 17 students from Years 7-10 volunteered to represent Blackheath High School in the first ‘Geographical Association WorldWise Quiz.’
The East London branch of the Geographical Association brought together a range of schools from across East and Southeast London. There were a range of rounds, from flag and country outlines to world sport and cuisine! Years 7 and 8 came in 2nd place for their age groups and Year 10 took 1st place! It was a great result - well done to everyone who participated, I hope this will become an annual event.
Year 8 make ‘Food Miles’ Pizza
Year 8 have been studying 'Global food issues' in their Geography lessons. As part of this unit, students create their own 'food miles' pizza, ensuring they know where the ingredients of the pizza toppings come from. They then use this information back in the classroom to calculate the carbon footprint of their pizza and create pizza pie charts. This leads to discussion where students critically analyse the concept of food miles and how many different factors need to be considered when we make food choices.
