In our annual Artist in Residence day our Year 3 & 4s produced some stunning artwork in their individual projects, culminating in a triumphant piece of collaborative work.
Year 4 explored architecture, making charming monoprints based on London houses and then collaborating on larger prints. The collaborative works were beautifully fitted together to form images of landmark buildings like The Lloyds building in London and The Chrysler building in New York.
Using clay to explore texture, our Year 3s initially made a small tile which used 3D layering on one half and mark making, incised into the clay surface, on the other. In the next steps of this fabulous project, Year 3 will go on to make a larger tile based on a building. As they develop their understanding of the opportunities for sculpting and working with clay, they will learn about building texture to make a relief tile.
In a homage to the Artists in Residence visiting artists programme, each class spends a day with our Junior School Head of Art to work on a special project, which will form part of the summer term Art exhibition; the theme for which this year is architecture.
