Preparing students for the future is a key priority at Blackheath High School. We strive to equip every student, from Nursery to Sixth Form with the key skills, knowledge and confidence they need to flourish and succeed in the world.
Blackheath High Futures is a pioneering programme designed to empower girls for life beyond education, equipping them with the skills and competencies predicted by the World Economic Forum as essential for success in an ever-evolving, digitally interconnected global landscape.
Our comprehensive programme focuses on instilling key attributes that will be desirable to businesses such as leadership, risk-taking, resourcefulness, analytical thinking, collaboration, resilience, and intellectual curiosity. As the world becomes increasingly influenced by AI and technological advancements, it is also important to equip our future female leaders with the most up-to-date skills and technological knowledge to confidently enter the future job market and achieve their full potential.
The Blackheath High Futures programme is practically implemented from each pupil’s first day at Blackheath High School. Our youngest learners engage in activities that promote social skills, curiosity, and foundational leadership abilities through play-based learning and guided exploration.
At our Junior School, pupils participate in co-curricular activities, collaborative projects, early STEM education, and confidence-building exercises, laying the groundwork for academic and personal growth. Our flagship Mighty Girls Challenge, an activity-based programme designed to foster the World Economic Forum competencies from a young age, encourages girls to try their hand at developing new skills, from juggling to learning words in a new language and upcycling clothing.
At our Senior School and Sixth Form, we offer advanced leadership roles, specialised workshops, internships, and real-world problem-solving tasks to prepare students for higher education and beyond. Our Girl emPowered Enrichment programme creates additional opportunities for self-development, including our unique Civil Discourse and Oracy stream, aimed at strengthening linguistic, cognitive, emotional and physical abilities and teaching the skills to navigate difficult topics and disagree well.
In collaboration with the Girls Day School Trust, we provide girls with numerous opportunities to practise their skills through initiatives such as our Space Technology Diploma, which has been specifically designed to encourage sixth formers to consider further study and careers in space science, coding and the STEM industry.
Nurturing positive mental health and wellbeing is integral to preparing students for the future. The Blackheath High Futures programme interconnects with our pastoral offering, embedding a sense of proactivity, teaching girls to self-regulate and manage their own wellbeing. A huge co-curricular programme, an ambitious trips schedule and an outstanding PSHEE (Physical, Social, Health & Economics Education) curriculum cover a wide range of topics on the spectrum of mental health and wellbeing.
