This year, our Book Week celebrations were virtual but that didn’t stop us from celebrating our love of literature! The week was packed with fun reading challenges, book hunts, inspiring virtual author visits and thrilling theatre performances. The whole school community also took part in our annual book character mufti – we loved seeing your fantastic costumes!
Our whole school theme focused on the picture book What We’ll Build by Oliver Jeffers. The message behind this book highlighted the importance of feeling safe in your home, something particularly important after a year of turmoil. This assembly showcased all of the wonderful work completed by the girls during Book Week.
During the week, Nursery and Reception enjoyed a visit from Rachael Mortimer whose books are a twist on traditional tales. Chloe Inkpen loved answering all of Year 1 and Year 2’s interesting questions about being an author. Celebrated poet Joseph Coelho inspired Year 3 and Year 4 with fantastic writing hints and tips. Avid readers in Year 5 and Year 6 were captivated by Robin Stevens, author of the hugely popular Murder Most Unladylike series, who shared some excellent story openers.
Teachers also disguised their identities as part of the first Blackheath High Masked Reader competition. Our Masked Readers shared their favourite books as well as some clues about themselves. Did you manage to guess who the Masked Readers were?
Thank you for all of your enthusiasm and hard work and we hope you enjoyed our Book Week celebrations!
