We extend a special invitation to Years 10, 11 and 12 to our online conference focused upon making applications to the most competitive UK universities.
This event will take place via MS Teams on Monday 22 February, from 6.30pm to 8.00pm.
This year’s offering includes different speakers with different areas of focus. Our particular drive, this time, is to hear from those who have pursued subjects that are not on offer at A-level, here or elsewhere. Hence, we will be hearing from a graduate of Social Anthropology and Arabic, and from undergraduates studying Engineering and Architecture.
The following speakers are confirmed:
Victoria Ball studied Social Anthropology with Arabic at Cambridge University, Sustainable Development at Oxford University, and Conflict Resolution in Divided Societies in the War Studies department of King's College London. She has studied nine languages and has lived and worked in the Middle East, Asia, Europe and the USA.
Grace Phan is a former student of Blackheath High. She has been accepted to study Engineering at Trinity College, Cambridge and will discuss her experiences of the application procedure, pre-testing and interviews.
Dr Antony Makrinos is an Associate Professor and Teaching Fellow at UCL, where he specialises in Classics. He is Director of UCL’s Greek and Latin summer schools and has worked extensively with university outreach projects. He will be speaking, not specifically about Classics, but about writing an effective personal statement to win a place on the most competitive courses.
Callum Henderson is an undergraduate student of Architecture at the University of Cambridge. He will discuss his experiences of the application procedure, pre-testing and interviews.
Further Blackheath High Alumni speakers are to be confirmed.
Should you wish to attend, please complete the form on the school’s Firefly system. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Holly via email: h.owenfrawley@bla.gdst.net.
