It was fantastic to collaborate with colleagues Catherine Gibson from Norwich High and Jo Orgill from Shrewsbury High to provide our French students with an overview of French history and culture 1800-present.
We covered topics from the rise and fall of the French colonial Empire, the Vichy government, women’s rights, the student protests of May ’68, the New Wave French cinema movement and the Impressionists. Students prepared reading and video material in advance from an extensive reading list – authentic preparation for university studies - and the whole course was run in French which gave them a valuable chance to maintain their listening and speaking skills during the lockdown period.
The course was very well-received and both the students and staff felt very proud and grateful to be part of the GDST family.
