We came in to Reception at the start of this term to discover giant beanstalks growing in our classrooms!
This reminded some of us of the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, so we decided to read the story and find out more. We discovered that Jack’s mother had accidentally helped the bean to grow by planting it outside in the soil! We decided to plant our own beanstalks and see if they could grow as high as Jack’s.
Using the stories of Jasper’s Beanstalk and The Tiny Seed, we learnt about all the things that plants need to grow such as water, sunlight, soil, and warmth, as well as a lot of patience! Now, a few weeks later, our beans are getting very tall and have grown several leaves. We are very proud of how well our beans have grown now that we know how to take care of them.
Nursery are continuing their phonics journey this term and have been busy learning a new sound each week.
Last week they learnt the sound ‘o’ and created lots of ‘o’ things including old, orange octopi.
