Bookbuzz is a reading programme from BookTrust that aims to inspire a love of reading for students in Year 7 and 8.
Students have the opportunity to choose their own book to take home and keep from a list of 17 titles. They are all carefully selected by a panel of experts to ensure quality, suitability and to encourage reading for pleasure.
Bookbuzz was launched this year, early in the autumn term, during year 7 and 8 library sessions. It's fantastic to be able to offer students a book to keep as a gift from the library, with the selection offering something for all interests and abilities.
Sets of the books were displayed in the library, highlighted by posters and bookmarks. During reading sessions the students are able to pass the books around and listen to excerpts from each of them before making their choice. They were given a special bookmark to mark their selection on and then the books were ordered. Their response was so enthusiastic! They were extremely excited about getting to choose and read their own books.
After waiting what seemed like forever for the girls the books arrived.
During the last library session of the term the students received a copy of their chosen book along with a book bag to take it home in. Handing the books out caused as much excitement as the selecting of them.
Everyone went away happily clutching their chosen book and chatting about which ones their friends had selected.
