In the most recent STEAM club activity, our girls learnt how to turn red cabbage into Rainbow Fish.
Students started by soaking the red cabbage in hot water and watched the colour of the water change from clear to blue/purple. They then filtered out the cabbage and let a piece of filter paper soak in the colour from the water. Once the paper was dried, students cut out a fish shape then used lemon juice, vinegar, etc. to add colour to their rainbow fish. As each item was added to the paper, students observed various colour changes. They also had the option of adding tinfoil and wiggly eyes to make their rainbow fish come to life!
In the next STEAM club, the girls will be making balloon powered rocket cars!
