I had not been back to school for 40 odd years, so it was a very special and, in fact, emotional day for me that brought so many wonderful memories of good friends, fun, and a particularly sound education.
I think the last week was only the second or third occasion that I had entered the School by the main front door; my first visit of course being on the event of my initial interview with Miss Abrahams in 1969. Coming in and seeing the hall with its original heritage still in situ alongside the wonderful, all-immersive glow of the new rainbow roof, you couldn’t help but feel an enormous wave of warmth, happiness and security.

The transformation of what was my Senior School into the now flourishing and highly successful Junior school is an incredible achievement which is clearly loved by all, from brilliant young pupils to passionate staff.
It was wonderful to enjoy this unique function and get a glimpse of such a vibrant school. The music and choirs were just delightful – all of their successes being very well deserved. The tours too were a fascinating trip down memory lane; our confident young guides being so pleased to proudly show us around and with complete clarity and poise.
I’m living in hope that in the future, I may have some granddaughters who might live near a GDST School where they too can learn to grow and flourish in such a wonderfully modern, informative and safe environment. Never have there been such great and inspirational opportunities for girls and there is nothing more important than not only having a solid educational foundation on which to build, but also the opportunity to learn about all of life’s good values, wellbeing and compassionate perspectives.
I am a firm believer that people make places and that is a testimony to all at Blackheath High School
None of this, of course, was achieved without the care, dedication and enthusiasm of the school’s leadership and staff. I extend sincere thanks to everyone for making this day so special and to the girls who greeted us so warmly. I am a firm believer that people make places and that is a testimony to all at Blackheath High School.
Blackheath High School certainly has it all!
