On Thursday 22 February, the Year 8 Senior School Mandarin language class took part in a Chinese folk dance lesson. During this lesson, we were introduced to a new kind of dancing and we were taught many things; such as opening a Chinese fan quickly and correctly. While most of us struggled at first with this, we all listened attentively to get it right and in the end, we did.
Learning the dance proved to be quite difficult. Although we all had our fair share of uncertainty about timing, it was an amazing experience to learn about another culture through traditional dance. I particularly enjoyed dancing in a small group without guidance from the instructor. This showed that we had learned the dance thoroughly and were prepared to dance on our own.
Ifesey, Year 8, said: "I really loved this experience and I would love to do it again sometime soon”. Gem, Year 8, added: “The dance lesson was a great experience and I won’t be forgetting it anytime soon”.
I think I speak for the entire class when I say that dancing with fans was a special highlight!
