At Blackheath High School we take pride in being a school that is right at the heart of the local community and we have been very busy during the past few weeks getting involved in community projects.
A group of girls who received Dementia Friend Training last year recently visited the residents of the Riverlee Dementia Home in Deptford to chat to residents and I am very proud that several of these girls work as volunteers there in their own time. At the same time, Year 10 and Miss Reed have been planning the annual Senior Citizens’ Party – a huge extravaganza that gets bigger every year. The students organise the decoration of the Theatre, the invitations to local day centres and friends of the school, the food and drink as well as a very successful raffle with exciting prizes! The girls also put on musical entertainment for their guests and they really enjoy finding out about the musical tastes people had in years gone by.
Taking our community work to a global level, we are all going to participate in a 10K walk through Greenwich Park and the Heath for Plan UK – a girls’ education charity… more details to follow!
