For this issue of '60 seconds with...', we catch up with Mr A Weaver, DT and Art Technician.
What is your role and what does it involve?
I am a full time DT, Art and occasional Drama/Theatre technician at Blackheath High. I work predominantly in DT, ordering materials, making sure that the workshop is a safe working environment, tidying and setting up materials and equipment ready for day-to-day lessons. A key part of my role is also to support teaching classes when lessons involve computers or machines.
How long have you worked here?
Since September 2006. After my degree, I worked as a designer for five years, making jewellery and tableware. I then went to Chelsea College of Arts to do a Masters in Design, and made and sold jewellery and furniture all over the world for a few years.
How do your qualifications/previous experience benefit the school?
My background in practical skills and knowledge is vast. I am not only a technician but also a minibus driver and caretaker if required as well as a part time teacher of enrichment and the Zen Motorbike Club!
What do you like most about your job?
I enjoy the variation my role has within the school.
What makes working here at Blackheath High so rewarding and enjoyable?
The people.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I am a mountain biker, climber, swimmer, runner, snowboarder. I enjoy most outdoor pursuits.
What are you most proud of?
I have an 8 year old son who is doing well in school and sports and that makes me very proud.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Completing my Masters degree.
Have you always had a passion for DT and Art?
Since school, I have been interested in creating, whether that be as an artist or designer or mechanically. I had a part time job at a bike shop after dismantling and restoring bikes of my own as a teenager. I went to Art college and the rest, as they say, is history!
