Back to Jurassic times for Reception

Blackheath High Junior girls were literally centre-stage at the Girls' Day School Trust (GDST) summer conference this week. The conference is a major event for the GDST with Trustees, Head Teachers and Heads of Juniors gathering with our CEO, Cheryl Giovannoni and key leaders from Trust Office to hear exciting key note speakers who are experts in various aspects of education or areas which relate to schools.
In the afternoon, Grace and Rebecca from Year 6 together with Mrs R Coles, took part in a panel Q&A session based upon their experience of the innovative Positive Project which Mrs R Coles is leading at Juniors. Both girls were incredibly articulate and mature in their responses, describing how they plotted their emotional barometer to assess their mood and the strategies they used to move on to a more positive position. Grace gave an impressive explanation of helpful and unhelpful worries. Facing a pretty formidable audience of educationalists, the girls were cool and confident - as was Mrs R Coles! Thanks also to Mrs Stewart and Mrs Anderson, the girls' mothers, who were eloquent supporters of the project.
Traditionally, the winners of the GDST Choir of the Year perform at the conference evening reception so both girls joined their Chamber Choir friends to perform to a packed theatre, led as ever by Mrs R Coles and very ably accompanied by Judith Beenders. The Choir was outstanding and the repertoire of 'Mr Blue Sky' and, particularly, 'You raise me up' guaranteed there was not a dry eye in the house.
Mrs C Chandler-Thompson and I could not have been more proud of all of our girls and we basked in the reflected glory of the many, many compliments bestowed on them by our fellow Heads and Heads of Juniors. You were brilliant girls, thank you.
