My name is Tiffany and I am a Year 10 Academic and Music Scholar at Blackheath High School. Although I have been here for a relatively short time (I joined in Year 8), I have been so impressed with how the school has continually supported me in growing my knowledge and offering me lots of opportunities to develop.
My academic scholarship allows me to strive for the best grades – I am taking GCSE Mandarin, History, Music and Drama, and my scholarship gives me many opportunities to flourish in each of my subjects. This year, GCSE Mandarin students competed in a competition against other schools – the Challenge of China - where we had a limited time to merchandise a Chinese product. My team won and received a certificate.
Along with some other students in my year, I was also offered the opportunity to take GCSE Statistics this year, which has helped to develop my overall Maths skills. I have also recently competed in Blackheath High’s annual Greenman Competition, where we wrote a persuasive speech. I have been selected to go to the semi-finals, where I will compete against others in my year to progress to the final. Obtaining opportunities like this not only improves my writing skills, but improves my public speaking and stage presence skills.
I play the Piano (ABRSM Grade 8), sing (ABRSM Grade 6) and take Music Theory (ABRSM Grade 6) at Blackheath High School. My music scholarship offers extensive opportunities for me and other scholars to thrive and prosper in our selected instruments. I am in four of the school’s music ensembles, where we have plenty of opportunities to perform at prestigious venues, such as The Royal Academy of Music. Next half-term, four other singers and I are singing at a GDST concert, where we will perform challenging and unique repertoire. This term the school also hosted a Music Scholars Concert, where we could perform a piece of our choice, allowing me to practise performing difficult piano pieces in front of an audience.
I am also a keen drama student, regularly participating in school drama competitions and musicals. The Drama Department at Blackheath High is really good at giving all students the opportunity to shine through an outstanding musical performance annually - last year, I played the protagonist in our production ‘13!: The Musical’, where I incorporated singing, acting and dancing skills. This year, we are working on the musical ‘9 to 5’, where I play one of the major leads (Franklin Hart Jr.).
With how busy I am, my family puts a lot of emphasis on balance - therefore, I do a range of sports outside of school, such as regular swimming and running with my family, which has greatly improved my overall well-being and fitness. Blackheath High fosters all student strengths and has provided me with many sporting opportunities to showcase this. In the summer of 2023, I competed in the ESAA Track and Field Competition, where myself and another student represented the school in the 300m race and high jump.
When I joined Blackheath High School in Year 8, I would never have imagined that it would become such a welcoming, motivational and inspiring environment to be in. From the friends I have made, to the quality of the education provided by both my scholarships, Blackheath High offers an enriching and full education, encouraging girls to strive for the best they can possibly achieve.
