Junior School meets inspirational sporting icons
This term the Junior School PE Department held a number of exciting events, including inspirational talks from two leading sports people.
We were privileged to host Lydia Greenway OBE, English cricket commentator and former England and International cricketer, who shared valuable insights on the significance of exploring various sports, setting ambitious goals, and facing setbacks with courage. Her inspirational talk motivated pupils to embrace a diverse range of physical activities. Renowned triple jump athlete, Tosin Oke, also graced us with his presence, showcasing his exceptional skills in the discipline. Beyond his athletic prowess, Mr Oke emphasised the importance of maintaining a healthy diet for optimal sporting performance. The girls were treated to insightful demonstrations, providing practical knowledge on mastering the triple jump.
In addition, our Sports Prefects took the initiative to lead their own assembly, focusing on inspirational women in sports. This empowering assembly highlighted the achievements and contributions of remarkable female athletes, serving as a source of inspiration for all pupils.
For those who missed these sessions, all assemblies are accessible on our Sports Prefect Blog on Firefly. Stay connected and stay inspired!
Bring on the Christmas sparkle of the annual Newcastle Hockey Tour
Our U14s hockey squad have had a highly energetic term of training and fixtures, culminating in the U14 Newcastle hockey trip at the end of November. Getting into the Christmas spirit and bringing a bit of sparkle to Newcastle, our squad headed off onto their annual Newcastle Hockey Tour, including a visit to the Christmas markets. The squad had an awesome few matches, showing superb teamwork, scoring some great goals and progressing with every touch of the ball. They were blessed with some brilliant, sunny, but nevertheless chilly, weather for some superb matches.
Our hosts at Newcastle High School were amazing and laid on a wonderful evening of pizza, movies, hockey quizzes (well done to winner Ruby!) and an inspirational talk from Shona McCallin, from GB Hockey.
The team we worked so hard and enjoyed an incredible few days of hockey. They battled well in every game and progressed immensely – supported by a very proud PE Department!

Our school netball fans got to enjoy a brilliant day out on 10 December to watch the thrilling Netball match between two incredible teams - the England Roses v South Africa Proteas.
