Where do Mounties come from? Where is the Taj Mahal? Where is Kenya?
Year 1 can tell you!
As we approach the end of our Creative Curriculum topic, ‘The World’, Year 1 took a trip to The National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. We set out on a beautiful, bright day, walking across Blackheath and through glorious Greenwich Park to get to the museum. Our first mission at the museum was to use our knowledge of the countries and continents of the world to place landmarks, flags and symbols on the giant world map. It was a fantastic experience to actually stand on the continents we have learned so much about and bring so much of our recent learning to life in an exciting way.
As we toured the rest of the museum, each group investigated the seas and oceans of the world. The museum had many maps to explore, plenty to see and even some things to sniff. The girls were extremely intrepid explorers of the museum. In the Antarctic exhibit, we were very impressed to meet Pongo, a real stuffed penguin, who is over 100 years old. Elsewhere Year 1 engaged with practical activities such as firing cannon balls, sending messages via Morse Code and loading cargo with a crane.
A fantastic time was had by all.
