Girls and their machines! - We saw some outstanding drawings and pieces of artwork from Year 3 in their recent project on ‘Machines’. The girls used mixed-media and collage to build out the designs in their sketchbooks. Some very impressive pieces suggest there could be some future designers and engineers among you!
African tie-dye art - Our wonderful Year 2’s have been studying Africa this term and as part of the art curriculum, girls designed and created their own T-shirts using a tie-dye method, which is used in many African cultures. They planned what they wanted their design to look like and the colour dye they wanted to use, before the practical activity.
Artist in Residence - The theme of this year's Junior Art Exhibition is Architecture and Year 1 have been working on individual and collaborative artworks inspired by castles. In preparation for next term's 'Castles' topic and as part of current our focus on the continent of Europe and Traditional Tales, the girls have been making and decorating individual 3D relief models. To do so, we have investigated the materials and appearance of castles from around Europe. Some girls have chosen to make more dilapidated and mossy structures, whilst others have kept their castles neat and tidy. The girls have used cutting, folding and scoring techniques to shape the towers and battlements from cardboard flats and tubes. Constructing doors that open, including via a drawbridge, has posed an additional challenge for many. Each Year 1 class has also worked collaboratively on painting a castle installation. Using what we have learnt about the patterns made by stone walls, the girls painted their castles by mixing tints and shades. We will rebuild these massive structures for the Summer Exhibition in May.
Tudor Times - Fire! Fire! Year 2 constructed mixed-media models of Tudor houses during their Artist in Residence lessons.
RA Young Artists Summer Show - Junior School have now submitted over 60 works of art to the Royal Academy competition. See some of the fantastic entries across KS1 and KS2 below.
