At an enjoyable Year 12 Trips Day, our Year group put our team building skills to the test which helped strengthen our friendships as well as our ability to improve how we communicate with each other.
To begin the day, Year 12 were split into two groups, with both taking part in a variety of different tasks. This helped us learn how to communicate better as a group in order to achieve the best result in these challenges. One challenge was retrieving a whistle and a cork from a pipe by pouring water into the pipe so the whistle would float to the top. The pipe itself was in a sectioned off area, so we had to pour the water using rope and a bucket. It was very challenging, but very rewarding as we all came together so that everyone was able to complete the challenge on time.
Next we were tasked with tapping numeric fabric keys with our hands and feet to see how fast we could reach the 30th key. We aimed to get under 10 seconds and my group got the fastest time. This was my favourite activity of the day as my team and I were trying our best to better our score each time by improving our communication skills and working out the best possible methods.
For our last task, our Year group joined back together and competed to pass a baton to each other as the distance increased without crossing the line. It was interesting to see how groups around me tried to stretch a member of their group as far as they could go in order to reach the baton. This demonstrated our trust in each other.
We completed many tasks like this, and we watched our skills, such as problem solving, develop throughout the day. Overall, I believe everyone was able to deepen their bonds, as well as complete an enjoyable experience that will benefit us in both the present and the future.
