With admissions season in full swing, we had a record number of girls sitting the 11+ entrance exam last week in preparation for their secondary school education. It was such a pleasure to see how our own Year 6 girls and those from other schools took the morning’s exams in their stride and the slightly worried looks turned to smiles as they left later that morning to go off to lunch. Similarly in November, the Theatre was full for our 16+ scholarship exams and it was pleasing to see that so many of our own Year 11 students and those from other schools will be taking up scholarships in September 2018 for our Sixth Form.
2018 is an important and exciting year for the school as our multi-million pound redevelopment programme reaches completion. This will provide a wonderful environment for current and future Blackheath High girls to grow and learn for years to come.
Whilst buildings and facilities are important for any school environment; plenty of natural light and open space to enable everyone to thrive, the less immediately visible elements are arguably more so when choosing a school. A recent ‘learning walk’ of lessons with representatives from the Girls' Day School Trust (GDST) education department exemplified this. Excellent relationships between staff and students, a real love of learning from enthusiastic and purposeful students and brilliant teachers who provide a curriculum which values breadth and depth of opportunities for learning, both in and outside the classroom. These are the elements of the education at Blackheath which we truly value and which will remain with our students as each one continues her own educational journey.
