We were thrilled to be able to host Lauren and the Mobile Zoo at the Sports Ground on trips day. After a nice stroll down to the field, Year 7 were treated to a carousel of activities all based on their current Science topic, Ecosystems.

The students had the opportunity to meet a variety of unusual animals up close, including a skunk, leopard gecko, ground squirrels, tortoises and hedgehogs. Lauren explained how the animals are cared for, gave us some interesting facts about each species and everyone enjoyed being able to stroke or hold the animals (except the millipede for some!).

The other workshops focused on biological classification, adaptations, conservation and ecosystems.  Year 7 also got to take part in a still life drawing activity, in which they were able to sketch mice, tortoises and meerkats using charcoal or pencil.

The weather was superb and the students (and teachers) really enjoyed a day outside the classroom.
