Karen Canty

Hello! My name is Karen Canty and I am the new Alumnae Manager at Blackheath High School. I am a former PR professional, I have spent the last six years working with refugees in Lewisham, and my own daughter has just started in Year 7 at Blackheath High – in fact, we started here on the same day! I am delighted to be raising a GDST girl and I am delighted that I will get the chance to work with so many more of you. 

I am really looking forward to getting to grips with all that this network of extraordinary women has to offer. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the GDST and its transformational effect on girls’ education. There will be a series of events, and we will also be letting you know about how you can contribute to the GDST Bursary Appeal, which seeks to ensure that more students who have the talent but not the means can benefit from what Blackheath High School has to offer.  

Finally, did you know we have a digital archive spanning more than 100 years of Blackheath High School’s history? We have photos, reports, school magazines, school play programmes, even a school prospectus from 1901!  If you have items you’d like to lend to the archive (you will get them back), please do let me know and we’ll include them on the website.
