About the MFL Department:

The MFL Language Department consists of 5 full-time teachers and 1 part-time teacher. We also work with part-time language assistants (French, German, Mandarin and Spanish). We support the school vision of academic excellence whilst teaching our students the skills they need to thrive confidently in their future aspirations. In MFL, this is translated by developing our students into confident linguists. Our students are expected to be taught towards the top. MFL classes throughout the school are held, to the greatest extent, in the Target Language, to develop the spontaneous use of the language. The students are expected to achieve a high level of fluency and accuracy. Our number of double linguists is growing. German, Spanish, French and Mandarin are taught at A-Level. All teachers within the MFL Department are expected to keep abreast of changes and curriculum changes. Since September 2025, French, German, and Spanish are following the iGCSE Edexcel. Mandarin is following the domestic Edexcel GCSE. At A-Level, French and German is following AQA, whilst Spanish is following Edexcel. The Department is keen to diversify its profile and relevance in the 21st Century and we have a particular commitment to engaging students through culture, diversity, films and literature and offers several education trips, competitions and overseas trips. This is a very exciting time to join the Department.
