Using only four items, the girls made lava lamps and even managed to get them to glow in the dark!
Firstly, the girls filled one third of the bottle with water. They then had a selection of colours to choose from to dye their water. Next, they filled the remaining two thirds of their bottle with vegetable oil using a funnel. Finally, each student was given half an alka-seltzer tablet to drop into her bottle. This enabled for the chemical reaction to occur. As the tablet reacted with the water and oil, droplets of ‘lava’ began to float to the top.
The reactions were fantastic to watch.
