On Saturday 17 November, members of Blackheath High School's Feminism / LGBTQ Society contributed to the annual Feminism in Schools conference held at Deptford Green School.
With over 350 students in attendance, the conference was a jam-packed day full of talks and workshops, from MP Vicky Foxcroft, local activist Milly Evans and academic Professor Jessica Ringrose.
In a panel called 'Sex and Relationships Education: How can we make it better?' Blackheath High School students from Year 9 to 13 including Ingrid (Yr 12), Maria (Yr 9) and Eden (Yr 9) spoke eloquently about their ideas for what should be included.
Only two weeks before, these students had spoken alongside Rosie (Yr 8) and Zoe (Yr 13) at a conference run by Sex Education experts 'SexPlain', so this was their second go at braving this complex subject and making known their ideas about how this important aspect of education can be improved across the country.
The audience were impressed by their eloquence and evident interest in improving sexuality and relationships education across the country and the feedback from those who saw the students' presentations have been flooding in ever since.
