Year 3 Curate for the Day at the Old Royal Naval College

It’s been a couple of years since we’ve managed to run a ski trip and now, like buses, two have come along at the same time! In February half term, we took 41 students from Year 6, 7 and 8 to the slopes of Pinzolo, Italy, a beautiful, small-scale resort a coach ride out of Venice Airport in the heart of the majestic Dolomites. The brand-new Edelweiss hotel welcomed us and provided great service all week, and the weather was spectacular, with glorious blue skies for most of our trip.
With a mix of new and more experienced skiers, students were spread all over the mountain in their different groups from day one. Absolute beginners learnt the basics before rapidly moving on to Blue and Red runs by the end of the week. The Advanced group also had a steep learning curve, and ended their week with a visit to Madonna di Campiglio in the next valley via a few Black runs and the Snow Park.
This type of trip is not for the faint hearted – it is very busy and very tiring! After skiing for six hours every day, we heard some groans of weariness at the prospect of evening activities too – but everyone ended up loving them! From ice skating to a torch-lit mountain walk, a trip to a gelato restaurant to a disco, there was much joy all round. The last evening gave us an opportunity for a bit of shopping (and more gelato). We are pleased to report there were no injuries and not one student missed a single ski session – amazing dedication and strength of character.
By the time we had returned on Saturday evening a parent had emailed asking if their daughter could book for next year!
Well done to all staff and students who went. Roll on Austria 2024…
